Each family is required to either sell $100 or more or opt-out of the fundraiser with a $40 contribution.

St. Jerome Home and School Meeting Minutes
September 24, 2008

1. The meeting was called to order and opening prayer lead by Rick Raatz.

2. Attendees: Approximately 14 parents, 6 Home & School Board members, Principal and staff members.

3. Introduction of Home and School members and new staff members:
Jamie Cotter introduced Miss Katie Ciske 4K teacher, Mrs. Mary Kohn 1st grade teacher, Miss Jennifer Douglas 8th grade teacher, Monique Larson school counselor, and Steve Hahn playground supervisor.

4 Approval of May 20th 2008 Meeting Minutes: Motion made by Joe Hammer to approve May 20, 2008 meeting minutes with amendments as follows: Correct spelling of Michele Weisensel and Milk Moola profit of $843.00. Megan Reischel seconded the motion.

5. Treasurer’s Report: There were several questions regarding the budget.
Motion made by Adrienne Van Norman to approve amended budget, Joe Hammer seconded the motion. Amended budget corrections.

6. Principals Report:

Wishing Tree: A wishing tree is posted in the entry way of school. On the wishing tree are items teachers/staff are in need of. Encourage families to help where they can.

SCRIP: The SCRIP program has been very successful thus far and is gaining popularity.

Computers: New classroom computers are on order for the teachers. Students will be allowed to use them as well. The computers have been purchased using the profit from last year’s Golf Outing.

Laser Printer: A new color laser printer has been purchased for the school. This was purchased with the proceeds of the Golf Outing.

4K: The 4K joined the Columbus School District 4K program. Funding is provided for all students in the Columbus School district that are enrolled in our 4K. We have 14 of 16 students that are Columbus residents.

WRISA Accrediting: For the school year 2010/2011 a steering committee is needed to prepare an overview of our goals and review them with the visiting team which consists of members of the Madison Diocese. If our goals are approved we will be accredited for 7 more years.

I Give Fundraising: This is a fundraiser that we can do online by shopping at specific stores. Proceeds will go to our school.


7. Fund raisers:

Market Day: We need someone to take over the Monday night distribution at the Columbus Middle School. This is between the hours of 2-6 p.m. (approximate time). Profit for September was approximately $100.00

Bucky Books: There are 100 Bucky Books to sell for $35.00 each.

Box Tops: Parents please cut box tops out along the lines. This is required for redemption and would make it much easier to process.

Pizza Sale: Mr. Z’s will be our distributor this year. Samples will be available at the Harvest Dinner/Book Fair. Pizza sale runs October 15th-29th.

Boston Store Coupons: Coupons available for purchase $5 each.


8. Activities & Events: Harvest Dinner/Book Fair is October 15, 2008 from 4-7. Cindy Schroedl is chairing the Scholastic Book Fair.

Halloween Party will be held on October 29th. It will be chaired by Kim Zittel.

Catholic Schools Week Mass & Spaghetti Dinner Saturday, January 24, 2009.

Norwegian Dancers have been contracted and will perform on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 8:30 a.m.

Family Fun Night & Lip Syncs Friday, January 30, 2009.

9. Old Business:

Roof: Fr. Bruce stated that the seams of the school portion of the roof were inspected and sealed. This was covered under the warranty.

Upham Woods: Upham Woods would be an overnight field trip for 4th-5th graders. Julie O’Connell talked with the KCs and St. Vincent de Paul. They have offered to help offset the cost of this field trip. Bus transportation will be the most costly expense.




10. New Business:

Columbus Safe Routes: Fr. Bruce addressed the topic of Columbus Safe Routes to School. The DOT provided a grant of $22,710.00 for a study of safe routes to school. They will provide another $125,000.00 grant to map out the routes. In addition, enhanced crossing signage would be posted. This would include flashing school crossing sign and off street walking/bike routes.

Printer Leasing: Michele Weisensel suggested that someone investigate leasing printers for the school. She stated that it would save money on maintenance as well as not having to purchase a new printer when the old one is worn out.

Insurance: Denise Hemling brought up having the Catholic Knights set up a booth at the Harvest Dinner/Book Fair. The group provides life insurance polices for children. St. Jerome's would receive $15-20 per student that is signed up.
